HO Omni, and Omni Wide Waterskis | Product Review

March 02, 2022

Omni is short for "omniscient" and "omnicompetent", which are defined as "of all things" and "in all ways", respectively. There's a reason HO calls this ski the Omni, and it's because it aligns perfectly with those definitions. The Omni from HO is an iconic ski in the HO lineup, and has no shortage of versatility.

HO Omni

The Omni has been known for performing great on just about any body of water, and behind any towboat. A lot of the Omni's versatility can be attributed to its width. The Omni was specifically designed to be a bit wider than a traditional slalom ski, but not have quite as much width as you would find on a wideride ski. This unique width allows you to handle imperfect water conditions with ease, while still allowing you to get the performance and response you would find in a more traditional ski.

The Omni features a fiberglass polyurethane core, and this core is what gives the ski a stable and damp feel. The construction of the Omni is designed to absorb any chop in the water, while HO's Clean Edge 3.0 design will produce plenty of acceleration with minimal skier input.

HO Carbon Omni

Looking to kick things up a notch from the Omni? The Carbon Omni is the ride for you. The Carbon version of the Omni has all of the same features as the Omni, with the difference being the construction of the core. The Carbon Omni features Carbon Laminates, these laminates increase the stiffness of the ski and provide the skier with an extra punch of acceleration. Basically, the Carbon Omni is a stiffer version of the Omni, which will give you more response and allow you to accelerate more quickly.

HO Omni Wide and Carbon Omni Wide

New for 2022 is the Omni Wide, and Carbon Omni Wide. Adding width to the Omni shape, this ski has the extra surface area needed to provide easier deep water starts and more stable turns. The Omni Wide is 3/8" wider than the standard Omni. This added width allows heavier skiers to ski a shorter ski, or ski at lower speeds and experience minimal compromise in performance. Just like the standard size Omni, the Wide comes in a Carbon version as well. The Carbon Omni Wide has all the benefits of the Omni Wide, with additional stiffness provided by the carbon stringers. This added stiffness will give you a better response and quicker acceleration coming out of turns.

The traditional Omni skis and the Omni Wide skis do appear to be almost identical at a glance, but there is a slight difference between the two styles, which can be found at the tip of the ski. The Wide versions feature a tip that is more rounded off than the traditional Omni.
