Have you ever tried running in your favorite sandals? If I had to guess, it probably didn't go too well. Using the wrong wakeboard rope will probably have you feeling the same way, which is why we're here to help.
With wakeboarding ropes there are a couple of different options to choose from. This is great because every rider is different, and it allows them to get the most out of their rope. You can either buy the rope and handle separately for ultimate customization or a pre-built package, let’s break it down.
Ropes
With ropes there are two mainlines. One is silicon covered and one is a standard rope. The silicon covered rope gives no feedback to the rider. Making it easier to jump without worrying if the rope will push back. Since the rope is covered with silicon it doesn’t allow any stretch from the rope that is underneath. Another plus for a silicon rope is they are less likely to tangle making them easier to store.
The more traditional style rope has a similar design to a ski rope but made with thinner and less stretchy material. This style of rope is pre-stretched so it will be forgiving like the silicon covered rope. This rope is high quality and at a more cost-effective price.
Handles
Wakeboard handles are designed to float and be more grippy than other ski handles. They also have more surface area than a ski handle. More surface area makes it easier for the rider to pass the handle especially when they are working on advanced tricks.
Having trouble landing tricks or flips with spins? Take a look at a handle with a T-wrap. A T-wrap is a 4-inch-wide bar placed between the rope and the handle.
T-wraps act as additional handle for the rider to grab onto when “winding up” for a spin so you don’t have to pass the handle between your hands. This is a safer option than trying to grab the rope in front of you or trying to pass the handle.
Rope And Handle Packages
Riders that want to fully customize their rope will purchase a rope and handle separately. If you are looking for a simpler way to purchase a wakeboarding rope, then you should consider a rope and handle package. Packages are already put together by the manufacturer making it easy for you.
Are you looking for a package to start out? We suggest the Follow Basic Wake Handle Package. This package includes a plush handle and 65’ of pre-stretched rope so that you can start jumping wake to wake effortlessly. The handle has foam on the inside along with foam attachments on the sides, so the handle won’t get lost in the water.
Are you wanting to do more complicated tricks and are interested in the t-wrap? We suggest the Ronix Combo 5.5 Package. This package includes a silicon covered rope, plush floating handle, and t-wrap so that you can spin and flip without the need to pass the handle.
